The start of the Queensland State Migration Plan has been announced by two Australian MPs.
Federal minister for immigration and citizenship Chris Bowen and Queensland treasurer and minister for employment, economic development and innovation Andrew Fraser made the announcement on Friday (November 26th).
"State migration plans are part of the Gillard government's continued commitment to supporting the Australian economy by attracting skilled migrants who can positively contribute to our workforce," said Mr Bowen.
Mr Fraser said that Queensland is looking to source highly skilled workers to meet skills shortages in important occupations, such as regional health practitioners and engineers for mining and coal seam gas projects.
In total, 83 occupations in skills shortage areas are covered under Queensland state migration plan.
Last week, the Northern Territory announced the list of professions that it is seeking from overseas as part of its state migration plan.
These included professional engineers, hairdressers, hotel managers and registered nurses.
