Queensland showing strong growth in domestic tourism

According to figures from Tourism Research Australia, Queensland has recorded 20 million visitors to the state over the past year for the first time ever.

Not only this, but it is on the way to showing the fastest growing rate of tourism of any other state in the country, reports The Courier Mail.

In fact, the figures show that Queensland is growing much faster than its traditional rivals of New South Wales and Victoria.

On the same day that these figures were announced, it was also said that there is to be a new $100 million aquarium for the South Bank in Brisbane.

With regards to the visitors who are coming to Queensland, not only are there more of them than ever before, but they're also spending more than the people who visit the other areas of Australia.

Tourism Research data says that Queensland has also shown a better performance for domestic business travel than Victoria by nearly 800,000 people.

Those who are leaders of tourism throughout Queensland are thrilled with the results that Tourism Research has collated.

So far, this state is reflecting on its current tourism boom and is doing well from the influx of money from tourists, as the industry was worth around $20 billion to Queensland's economy.

Credit for the rise in tourism is being given to the weaker Australian dollar, which has seen an increase in the amount of visitors across the country overall.

As a result of the lower dollar, many travellers are holidaying closer to home, which means that a lot of the money and tourism is coming from Australians themselves.

Lower petrol prices are also credited with helping the rise of tourism too, as more people are choosing to vacation via road trips.

The highest spike in tourism in the state was in far north Queensland, posting an uplift of 27 per cent, meanwhile Brisbane also saw an increase of nearly 11 per cent.

Kate Jones, Queensland tourism minister, said: "This is fantastic news and underlines the success of marketing campaigns designed to attract new, home-grown travellers to Queensland."
