A reduction in regulation regarding new construction developments in Queensland has been announced.
Deputy premier and minister for state development infrastructure and planning Jeff Seeney told Australian Property Investor that the new rules will remove a number of triggers for applications to be referred to state agencies in the future.
"These referrals were mostly for agencies to provide advice only and were adding to the regulatory and cost burden for applicants [and] councils," he commented.
Measures that have now been removed include concurrence referral for particular applications for preliminary approval, as well as advisory referrals for projects subject to conservation, cultural heritage and wetland sites.
Last month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics released data highlighting an 18 per cent increase in building sector housing approvals in Queensland during June.
However, the picture across the whole of the country was slightly less positive, with a fall of 2.5 per cent overall during the month in comparison to June last year.
