Queensland floods 'will create more jobs'

The repair work that will be required in Queensland to clean up after the floods will create a great number of jobs in the Australian state.

There is a silver lining to the recent floods in Queensland in that new jobs will be created as a great number of people will be required to repair the damage caused to the Australian state.

Employment minister Chris Evans went as far as to say that there will be "huge immediate impacts on employment" as a result of the floods.

''We have seen previously after the Victoria bushfires and the ACT bushfires a demand for a lot of construction work and that rebuilding process will no doubt generate jobs," he added.

Mr Evans' comments follow the publication of employment figures by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

These showed that the number of people that were in employment in Australia increased by 25,300 from November to December, in trend terms.

Some 11.39 million people were employed in the country in the month of November, rising to 11.42 million in December.
