The production of certain materials used in the construction of property in Australia increased significantly from January to February, new figures have shown.
A new report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that 12.67 million sq m of plasterboard was produced in the country in February, compared to 9.32 million sq m in the previous month.
In February 2010, 11.92 million sq m of plasterboard was produced in Australia, meaning that 750,000 sq m more was produced in the same month of this year.
Last month, 1.92 million sq m of pre-mixed concrete was produced across the country, compared to 1.24 million sq m in January.
The amount produced this February is 110,000 sq m more than was created in the same month of 2010.
While plenty of construction materials are being produced, not enough new Australian properties are being built, the Urban Development Institute of Australia State of the Land Report recently claimed.
It found that Sydney is the state capital that has the greatest property shortage in the country.
