The Australian government hopes to lure Chinese tourists.

Authorities in Australia have pledged a major investment in promotional activity to help boost tourism from China, which may interest those looking to invest in Australian property.

Tourism Australia's current 'There's Nothing Like Australia' advertising campaign will be rolled out across China in August, at a cost of $30 million (£17.4 million).

A key aim of the investment is to tempt more visitors from the Asian nation to tourism hot spots throughout the north-eastern state of Queensland.

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd recently used a visit by Chinese vice-president Xi Jinpeng to highlight the potential benefits of Chinese tourism to Australia's economy.

He said: "China is expected to emerge as Australia's number one source market for international visitors in the next few years."

Mr Rudd added that the government would also stage a forum in Cairns "in the near future" with a view to boosting two-way tourism.

Earlier this month, Australia signed commercial agreements with China worth an estimated $10 billion, mainly relating to mining and energy projects.
