New Brisbane masterplan unveiled

A new masterplan for the redevelopment of Brisbane centre has been revealed.

Following the completion of the Property Council of Australia's workshop with Brisbane City Council, the new City Centre Master Plan has been unveiled.

The project includes a strategy for meeting the growing demands of Brisbane's central business district and sets out the ideals of future living in the city by 2031, focusing on transport, the economy, culture and the public realm.

It features five key goals for Brisbane - delivering a "leafy outdoors lifestyle", ensuring free movement for residents, creating a space of "boundless opportunity", building properties that breathe and making "every space a stage".

Meanwhile, planning approval has been granted for the construction of two new residential towers in downtown Brisbane as part of the AU$450 million Central Village development.

In total, the project aims to provide 163 apartments spread over 18 storeys at each of the new properties, with more than half to be delivered as part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme.
