A report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) shows that one in five people living in the country, however, would like to work fewer hours.
The main reason that this group stated for wanting more time off was to take part in more social and recreational activities.
Another reason given was that they wanted more free time to spend with their families.
"Men, those already working full-time, and workers with children were among those most likely to be over-employed," the ABS states.
"Workers who were managers and professionals were most likely to want to work less hours," it continues.
Earlier this month, the ABS revealed that the number of people employed in Australia increased by 1.8 percentage points in May.
It showed that some 11,442,400 people were in employment in April, rising to 11,444,200 in May.
