Melbourne sees new homes boost

Up to 1,100 properties are set to be constructed in Melbourne.
The construction of up to 1,100 new homes in West Melbourne will help to provide greater employment opportunities and a raft of new houses for buyers in the area.

Planning minister Matthew Guy has announced the creation of the Allura community under the state government's Truganina South Community Precinct Structure Plan.

In total, the development could attract an addition 3,450 residents and will be beneficial to the economy - especially during the construction phase.

"Central to the Victorian government's vision is the need to improve housing affordability to give Victorians every chance to own a home," Mr Guy commented, adding that this project could do just that.

Meanwhile, the Herald Sun recently reported the construction industry is the main driving force helping to stabilise the local economy in Victoria.

This was according to new figures from St George Bank, which showed gross state product for Victoria is predicted to be up by 2.5 per cent in 2011.
