Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have highlighted the popularity of Australia as a destination for expats heading from the UK.
According to the organisation's latest data, of the more than six million expats presently residing in Australia, one million were born in the UK.
However, the overall proportion of the Australian population born in the UK diminished during the last decade from 5.8 per cent in 2001 to 5.3 per cent in 2011.
Across the country, the states with the highest level of migration were shown to be New South Wales (50,200 people in 2010-11), followed by Victoria (45,700) and Queensland (31,300). The Northern Territory had the lowest levels at just 630 people.
Earlier this month, the ABS also published data highlighting the popularity of local destinations for Australian overseas visits.
It showed that during 2010-11 more than 7.4 million trips were recorded, with New Zealand the favourite choice among Australian travellers.
