Interest rates on hold - for now

Australian interest rates remain steady after the recent meeting of Federal Reserve Bank last week.

As widely expected, the Reserve Bank of Australia this week left official interest rates unchanged at 5.75 per cent, following its board meeting on Tuesday.

This follows a raise of 25 basis points from 5.50 per cent in May 2006.

Some pundits are now anticipating a further raise next month, while others suggest there will be no more changes this year.
