Matthew Guy, the planning minister for Victoria, has approved plans for a new suburban community close to Berwick in the south-east of Melbourne.
Plans for the new community include four small retail precincts and a local town centre, as well as schools and sports grounds.
The property development, Clyde North, will build up to 6,600 houses on 400 hectares of land, housing up to 18,000 people. Approval for the scheme came today (November 7th) after a report from property market analyst BIS Shrapnel claimed the deflated Australian property market is poised for improvement.
Its analysis suggested lot production is set to increase over the next two years, a process Victoria's government hopes to facilitate through its building project.
"Approval of Clyde North is an important step toward opening up land to create a new community in one of Melbourne's fastest growing areas," Mr Guy said. "These plans are a crucial part of the Growth Areas Authority's work to rezone suitable land for development to ease land supply pressures in the growth areas."
