Speaking to Nine MSN, Mr Buswell highlighted the importance of home ownership in creating aspirations for young people living in the state.
His comments come alongside predictions that a newly launched low-deposit mortgage loan will allow struggling first-time buyers to get their first step on to the property ladder.
This comes after concerns that the three per cent deposit could result in people experiencing difficulty meeting payments and worsening the country's financial situation.
"More broadly as a state we need to be building houses, because if we don't build enough houses we get pressure in the property sector and that pressure at the moment is on rents," he added.
This comes after a recent report from the Climate Commission suggested that western Australian towns were the most at risk from the impact of climate change.
