HIA: Focus on Queensland property is welcome

The Queensland Liberal National Party's focus on construction and property is welcome, claims the HIA.

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has expressed its pleasure that the Liberal National Party (LNP) is set to focus on stimulating the Australian property market in Queensland.

It announced its plans for a development strategy in the construction and property sector, with aims including cutting down on red tape and reducing taxes.

LNP leader Campbell Newman said affordable housing will continue to be the government's priority in the coming years.

This move has been met with relief from the HIA, which feels government action is needed to help revitalise the market.

HIA's Queensland executive director Warwick Temby argued that home building has been too heavily regulated historically and said he hopes the government's new focus could help bring to light some of the issues facing the sector.

"Requiring local governments to have housing affordability as a key strategic goal in all their planning schemes is another important step in elevating industry issues," said Mr Temby.
