Local and state governments need to "re-invigorate" employment land development as it is essential to economic growth in New South Wales (NSW), it has been said.
The Property Council of Australia has outlined ten key steps which it believes are needed to address the barriers to the efficient development of land across the state.
"Employment land development and job creation are key components of Sydney's population and economic growth equation," commented NSW acting executive director Glenn Byres.
The land needs to be activated in order to deliver new jobs, he added.
Mr Byres pointed out that the government had released the Employment Lands for Sydney - Action Plan, but had fallen short when delivering the proposals.
The Property Council of Australia has called on the authorities to take steps such as piloting new finding mechanisms and establishing an advisory committee on land development.
Under the action plan, priority employment land is protected, with serviced industrial areas made available quicker to help meet the needs of business growth.
