Dire Straits guitarist sells New South Wales apartment

Guitarist John Illsley of Dire Straits has sold his three-bedroom Point Piper apartment.

Guitarist John Illsley of the legendary rock band Dire Straits has sold his apartment in Point Piper, New South Wales, Property Observer reported.

The three-bedroom apartment is located in Point Piper on Wolseley Road, which is known to be the richest street in Australia. It is 241 square metres and is situated in a block of seven apartments called Harbour Gate.

After being on the market for two weeks the property was sold. The amount that it was sold for, however, has been kept secret although it was hoped that it would go for over $3 million.

Mr Illsley, who migrated to Australia from England, bought the apartment for $690,000 after he finished a tour of Australia with Dire Straits in 1986. He now lives in Hampshire.

Point Piper is a residential suburb located east of Sydney. It is regarded as an exclusive suburb as it has only 148 detached houses and 11 streets.
