A small business owner in Kallangur, north Brisbane is receiving up to AU$1,500 a quarter after installing solar panels to his home.
Kerry Rochfort has fitted 42 solar panels to his roof and is now in the enviable position of receiving a cheque every three months for the energy producers rather than a bill, the Brisbane Times reports.
"I just came across an opportunity and for the next 25 to 30 years, the sun is never going to go away," he told the newspaper.
"The only bad thing is if I move out of here, I lose it."
Mr Rochfort runs a "cocktail slushees" businesses and is an electrician by trade. He came across the panels as a bargain find after they were auctioned by the University of Queensland.
The news follows recent comments from the Master Builders Association, calling for a reduction in costs for the infrastructure improvements to new homes as part of green housing legislation.
