New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveal that the average citizen is also better educated and has a higher income than ten years ago.
Income has grown by an extra $8,200 (£5,171) per year, while unemployment has dropped from 6.3 per cent in 2000 to 5.2 per cent in 2010.
However, the results revealed that national productivity has fallen during the same period, dropping by 2.1 percentage points, with outputs in a number of economies dropping.
This news comes after research carried out by the ABS revealed that 78 per cent of the country's adults were satisfied with their lives, a two per cent increase since 2001.
Data highlighted that individuals who are married, widowed or never married were more likely to be happier than those who were divorced or separated.
