Australian house hunters 'favour pools'

House hunters in Australia prioritise pools, according to new research.

When looking for a new home in Australia it seems that there are a few things everyone expects it to have.

According to a new study from Realestate.com.au the most searched for term was 'pool', as Aussies hunt for swimsuit-friendly homes.

Catherine Cashmore, a buyer's advocate with National Property Buyers, said that - depending on the location - pools are a real priority.

"In Queensland that is one of the top things, you just wouldn't consider buying without one. But pools in Melbourne and colder cities, never," she explained.

Also on the top ten list of most searched terms on the property website were waterfront, granny flat, views, duplex and shed.

The extra space is reflective of Australian families living together for longer and needing more bedrooms and lounges to accommodate this.

Ms Cashmore said that this was due to the increased number of kids staying at home longer and elderly parents moving back into the family home to be looked after by their children.
